The operation of drones or any unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) over the property, including any adjacent private areas, is strictly prohibited without prior written permission from the property owners.
No. The release of any sky lanterns from the pods or farm grounds is strictly prohibited & is in fact banned on all Council ground in Wales. We appreciate the sentiment behind wanting to release lanterns, but the risks far outweigh the sentiment...
In the UK, both the NFCC (National Fire Chiefs Council) and the RSPCA advise against sky lanterns because of the risks to livestock, wildlife, buildings and agriculture. Sadly, they have been the cause of serious incidents, such as the Smethwick fire, caused by just a single lantern, which needed over 200 firefighters and 45 fire engines to bring the blaze under control.
Some of the risks of lanterns:
• Lanterns are small open flames that can be carried for miles by air currents, and you can’t predict where or when they’ll land. If they come down while still alight, or drift into trees, wires, or buildings, they can quickly start fires.
• Livestock and wildlife can panic if one drifts over or lands in their vicinity, which can cause injury or death if they try to outrun it in fear and collide with objects or fencing.
• The wire frames left behind can be directly ingested (particularly by young curious animals who like to nibble everything), or ingested as needle-like pieces that end up in hay or silage when machines chop up the wire and bale it.
Therefore, due to their dangerous nature, it is safest to choose something non-fire and non-airborne to celebrate loved ones or occasions.
