FAQs

How do I book?

Email alice@fostingsalpacas.co.uk and let us know which pod and which dates you’re interested in. If your chosen dates are still available, we’ll send you a link to book.

Where will I stay?

You can choose from either of our glamping pods; Hares Form (sleeps 2 adults) or Alpacas Rest (sleeps 4 adults).

When can I start?

You can start as early as 10am on the Friday, after completing a 15 minute induction, including a Health & Safety briefing. If you’d prefer a slower start, there’s also a 3pm or 8pm induction on Friday - it’s completely up to you!

How long is the experience?

You’re welcome to check in from 9am on Friday and head to the lambing shed from 10am onwards. You can spend as much time as you like getting involved on Saturday and Sunday, right up until pod check out at 6pm.

Do I have to spend all the time in the lambing shed?

We’d love for you to make the most of this unique and special opportunity and get involved as much as you can. That said, there’s no pressure! You’re welcome to take a break, do a bit of sightseeing, or simply relax and enjoy your pod - it’s hard work, after all!

Is this suitable for pregnant women?

For the safety of both mother and baby, anyone who is pregnant, trying to conceive, or has a partner who is expecting should not take part in the lambing experience and is advised not to stay on the farm. Please do not book this experience if there is any chance you may be pregnant at the time of the experience stay, as deposits and balance payments are non-refundable.

Can I bring my children?

Lambing stays are an adult-only experience. Guests aged 16 and over are welcome to stay and take part. Children under 16 are not able to stay or join the experience.

Can I walk to the lambing shed?

Yes! The lambing shed is just a short walk from the pods: around 120m from Hares Form and 220m from Alpacas Rest.

Will I see lambs being born?

We hope you’ll have the chance to witness multiple live births during your stay, though this can’t be guaranteed - Mother Nature has her own schedule, and it all depends on how much time you spend in the shed and a touch of good timing.

Can I bottle feed lambs?

We only bottle feed lambs when it’s really needed - for example, if a ewe isn’t producing enough milk or has sadly passed away. If it is needed, you may have the chance to help, but it can’t be guaranteed.

Can I cuddle a lamb?

Yes, absolutely! When shed is calm, you’re welcome to enjoy a cuddle and capture photos with the lambs.

Can I help in the night?

Night-time in the shed is usually quiet. Lambing can be a full-on and tiring experience, so to make sure you’re bright and energised for the day ahead, we recommend heading back to your pod for some rest and relaxation overnight. You’re welcome to return to the shed from 5am the next morning to get back into the action.

What footwear do I need to wear?

To help protect our animals, all participants must wear closed-toe wellies or walking boots (no trainers, sandals or flip-flops) and dip them into the provided disinfectant solution before entering and exiting the shed.

What clothing do I need to wear?

The shed, although covered overhead is not heated and therefore subject to the ambient outdoor temperature. You’ll need to wear suitable outdoor clothing, such as waterproof coat and trousers, to keep you clean and dry, with plenty of layers underneath to keep you warm. Woolly hats, neck buffs (no scarves), and waterproof gloves are all recommended to help keep you warm. Lambing season can bring anything from bright sunshine to snow, so be ready for anything! Lambing can be a messy business, so please wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty or stained during typical lambing tasks.

What food do I need to bring?

We provide light refreshments at coffee time, should you wish to join us. Please bring your own food and drinks for all meal times to enjoy during your stay.

Photos and videos

We may take photos and videos during your experience. By booking, you’re giving your consent for this in advance. We’ll share any images with you as a keepsake of your time with us. If you’d prefer not to be photographed, just let us know.

Risks

Your stay and experience take place on a working farm, where machinery may be in use. Please ensure that everyone in your party is aware of this and takes care to keep clear of machinery to avoid injury. For your safety, participants must follow the instructions of your experience leaders (Alice & Kevin) and adhere to all farm rules at all times.

Insurance

We hold Public Liability Insurance but we request that you hold your own personal accident and cancellation insurance. We recommend that you take out personal insurance for the unlikely event that you break down, have traffic delays, suffer from illness or are prevented in any other way from attending your experience.
